Biography:

Keira Knightley was born on March 26, 1985 in Teddington, England to Will Knightley, an actor, and Sharman MacDonald, a playwright. Right from the beginning, it was apparent that Keira had big goals set for herself. At the age of three, Keira asked her parents for an agent, wanting to follow her parents footsteps in showbusiness. Not wanting to introduce their young daughter to the world of showbusiness at such an early age, they refused her. Three years later, to Keira's delight, they finally gave in and got her her own agent.
Her first role was a bit part in a movie entitled A Village Affair. A few small roles in various television movies, including Treasure Seekers and Coming Home followed. Next came Keira lucky break, a small role in a big, big movie. She landed a part in George Lucas's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace where she played the Decoy Queen to Natalie Portman's Queen Amidala.

Keira now found herself with much larger roles - including the title role in Disney's Princess of Theives in 2001, and co-starring alongside Thora Birch in The Hole. In 2002, Keira co-starred in the indie soccer flick Bend it Like Beckham with Parminder Nagra, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and Juliet Stevenson. Although the film was well-praised, it remained under the radar (being an indie flim) and Keira still did not recieve much attention. Soon after that, she landed the role of Elizabeth Swann in the high-budget, high-profile Disney movie The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Keira, still at this point an unknown, starred alongside three huge stars - Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. It was this role that turned Keira into an overnight sensation.

Since then, Keira's beauty, talent, and even her belly button ring, have landed her roles that any young starlet would dream of: starring with an all-star British cast in Love Actually, alongside a passel of handsome men in King Arthur, acting with an Academy Award winner in The Jacket, and the ultimate female herione of literature, Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice.

In 2006, Keira earned both a Golden Globe AND Academy Award nominations for her protrayal as Lizzie Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. Although Keira did not recieve the awards, but made a splash on the Hollywood fashion scene, winning best-dressed polls for various magazines and entertainment sites. No doubt, Keira has once again been brought to the attention of moviegoers - as well as critics - around the globe. Keira has only one direction to go from here - up, and she's not looking back.
